5 Signs That It’s Time For Bathroom Remodeling
The bathroom is the most sacred sanctuary in the home, and it is the most intimate space where all your demons are released and all your passions are contained; it is the place where you cry your sorrows and reflect in-depth on what makes you yourself. It is the vault of your darkest secrets and the cradle of your deepest longings.
It is also the place of your most mundane and daily routines, where you lose your modesty and makeup, where you can be yourself naturally, and where your day usually begins and ends.
Humidity
The most common cause of deterioration in the bathroom is the accumulation of moisture. Exposed walls can begin to develop saltpeter, deposits of potassium nitrate that are produced when moisture accumulates in the pores of the walls and rises to the surface by capillarity, carrying water-soluble alkaline salts present in many building materials. As it builds up, it corrodes the surface finish, allowing the exposed wall or ceiling to accelerate deterioration.
Unattended humidity can lead to mold growth on the walls and ceiling, which can be terribly damaging to health, particularly the respiratory tract. Mold is a type of fungus that reproduces by releasing spores into the environment that, when breathed, can cause very serious respiratory diseases.
Without hesitation, if you recognize the presence of saltpeter in your bathroom, you have humidity problems; you have to solve them. If you already have mold, no doubt, it’s time to get to work without delay.
Inadequate ventilation
Very hand in hand with humidity are ventilation problems, and almost all humidity problems are due to poor and insufficient ventilation, which can cause other less obvious or much more annoying problems, such as odors that do not dissipate and they leak into the rest of the house or even trouble to breathe when you shower in very hot water (which can be potentially risky).
An essential part of a correct bathroom remodeling design is sufficient and effective ventilation, which may require chimneys and even extractors to achieve an adequate air evacuation to keep the interior of the bathroom fresh and healthy.
An unmistakable sign of ventilation problems is mold, which cannot spread in ventilated areas where spores are dislodged before settling. Another much more obvious and unpleasant sign is persistent odors. If your bathroom is the reason for uncomfortable expressions, let alone, it is time to renew.
Rust
Another inseparable friend of humidity is rust, which can attack all metal items exposed to moisture or directly to water, including taps and showerheads, as well as bolts that hold the toilet bowl and other items such as hangers and cancel. And while rust is relatively “treatable,” its constant presence is a sign that moisture isn’t dissipating properly and/or that bathroom remodeling decor has seen much better times and is in need of retirement.
Small rust stains and light buildup can easily be resolved with baking soda, vinegar, or lemon juice and elbow grease, but it’s very marked presence on virtually all metal surfaces accounts for years of unattended buildup. It is time to contemplate the remodel.
Poor lighting
Although “enough” could be a subjective term, if the light that the bathroom receives is not enough to see the mirror comfortably and you find yourself frowning to distinguish silhouettes in dark corners, it is most likely that you lack the minimum essential light to use the bathroom comfortably.
Analyze the layout of the space, and consider expanding the amount of natural light it receives during the day without ever sacrificing privacy (don’t lose your mind!) At night the lighting needs to be sufficient in every corner, particularly in front of the mirror, to be functional.
The fashion trend is in at least a couple of environments created from the number of lights and their intensity. The ambient light behind the mirror is also a great detail.
Make it shine!
Wear of materials
It seems obvious, but constant humidity causes greater wear on bathroom materials and coatings, and it does so at a higher speed if that humidity is not controlled properly. Softened woods, rusting metals, contaminated joints are an indisputable sign that your bathroom needs attention. If the tiles in the wall start to sound “hollow” with a few taps of the knuckles, the material that holds them in place is losing consistency, and they will start to fall off. If that is your case, start looking for options, you will have to attend to it soon.
If your bathroom shows one or more of these symptoms, don’t hesitate; let’s remodel!
